Treatment #16!

Well, we are home from the hospital and Elliot is doing fantastic. He's a little sad that he can't go outside and play today because the weather is beautiful. Mommy is keeping him occupied inside instead. He did AMAZING once again. No pre-med (Versed) and no crankiness after....besides being a little grumpy about the nurse not taking the IV out immediately haha. Dr. Orringer consulted with me after the treatment and said that after his next blending treatment we're basically done with this first round. He thinks it looks great and we aren't really achieving further lightening *besides the blending that we've been doing* so we will take a break and just do maintenance treatments when needed. I LOVED this news, and so did Elliot. When I told him he gets a break he said "yay!" He's so amazingly strong and I just can't even express with words how proud I am of him.

After we left we went to Chipotle, like always. ;) He was wound for sound. Dancing, running and doing push ups HAHA. He then ate his kids meal and a half of my enormous burrito. This kid can pack the food away like there's no tomorrow!

I will try to be more diligent in posting healing pics this time. I've been slacking lately. On to the cute pics. :)

On our way! It was a foggy, early morning.

Blood pressure check.

Just getting in the car. Rockin' that messy 'do :)

Mommy and Elliot at Chipotle.

Shoving his face like he's starving lol

Me and my best friend Alisha...who is always there by my side. :)

Looks great! I was at Mott's also on Wed with my son Asher. He has a PWS on his abdomen/back. This was treatment #6. I've been following your blog since our treatments started in Jan 2014. You have eased my worry! So happy Elliot is almost done. I can't wait until Asher no longer needs the Versed. He wakes up inconsolable for almost an hour :( Our next treatment is in May.

Hi Christine! Thank you so much for your comment. Hearing that our blog has helped someone else makes me really happy. :) Good luck with Asher's treatment and I hope that soon you'll also be able to skip the Versed. How old is he? Elliot is 4 1/2...I didn't think the day would come so soon that he would be brave enough to go back alone but I was pleasantly surprised. :)

We probably have a while! He just turned 2 in December.

I just found your blog. My daughter is also in kindergarten and her PWS is very similar to your sons. I was wondering what you doctor means by the blending? We go to a children's hospital in the state of NY. She has had 23 treatments. I'm not sure they are doing anything anymore but the doctor thinks we should continue. How did your doctor know that Elliot's treatments weren't doing anything anymore? I wish we could see through the skin or see if the vessels are even being reached. It it is doing anything it so small I question if it is worth it each time.

Hi Jyl,

Dr. Orringer takes photos before each treatment. Elliot has a lower threshold for joules than the max, so at this time he's met his limit as far as lightening at that phase. The blending technique uses a slightly larger laser with lower settings. It helps blend out the harsh lines left behind from the spots that the laser went around or missed so that it has a more even appearance.

Honestly, I think you'd be the best judge of whether or not you're seeing much difference. If you feel you're not you could go into a maintenance phase for a while and have 1 treatment a year. You could also get another opinion by another doctor if you have one near you.

This summer we did not utilize sunblock enough. We moved to a more secluded area where Elliot had more freedom to play outside. I noticed his birthmark darkening, so I plan to have a full treatment in December. He is scheduled for December 16th.

Thank you for reading our blog, it means a lot to us! <3
