Treatment #14

On Wednesday Elliot went back to the U of M to get his 14th treatment. Everything went well as usually, except when the anesthesia starts to wear off. He experiences severe mood swings and lashes out for about an hour. Once that's over he's back to his normal happy self. :-) I just love this boy more than words could ever say.

This next photo was taken today, 3 days after treatment.

Update!

Wow! I haven't updated this blog in quite a while! Elliot did get his treatment in November, however that was the last one due to cancellations for snow. He is scheduled back at Mott's on May 14th (next Wednesday) for treatment #14. Since we have had scheduling issues we are not on track where we want to be. Our plan at this time is to have a full treatment done next week, take the summer off, and possibly do a blending treatment before he starts preschool in the Fall. I have yet to decide how to handle treatments during the school year. He has started to struggle with his confidence, though I don't believe it is related to his PWS whatsoever. He is shy and feels like people are laughing at him so I imagine it will only be worse if he goes to school with spots on his face. We might just plan to do treatments during Christmas break and Spring break. I guess we will see how it goes after this.

I will definitely be back next week with treatment updates, so stay tuned!

Elliot Post Treatment #12

Elliot's spots are pretty much gone now. I think the blending technique worked pretty good. I can already see a decrease in the blotchiness from previous surgeries. He goes back to the U of M the 2nd Wednesday in November to get treatment #13. I think our plan is to do 2 more full treatments, followed by 2-3 blending treatments before wrapping it up for the initial set of treatments. Of course he will likely need maintenance treatments, but I am very hopeful about the new cream they are doing clinical trials on that will help prevent the vessels from reforming.

We plan on putting Elliot in preschool next Fall so I'd like to stop for a while once that starts. I don't want him to have to deal with treatments during school time for various reasons. This kid has an esteem higher than the Sears Tower and is so lovable and likable: I want him to always hold on to that self esteem. :) Here are a couple photos from the pumpkin patch and geocaching today. Lighting wasn't the best.

Love to Read?

I've been doing this blog for our son Elliot for a couple years now. I finally decided to branch off and create one just for me! :) Reading is my favorite (besides my family) so I created a blog to review books and post other things just about books. If you like to read please check out the blog!

14 days post op

Spots are almost gone because of the lower setting. :-) Much easier healing time this round.

5 days post op

It's been 5 days since Elliot's treatment. Because of the laser being on a lower setting his spots are already fading to a red color, most of the purple is gone.

No scabbing this time. :-)

Post treatment #12

Elliot did great again. No tears! Dr. Orringer decided to do a blending method this time. This uses a bigger laser with a lower setting to blend the lines of the blotchiness. We are going to see how he looks doing this the next couple of times before deciding how to proceed. Unfortunately we have hit a ceiling with the laser levels, below what we were hoping for. His skin can't handle the higher settings.

Here are some pics from the last 2 days.
